When chips or cracks or discolouration plague our teeth, veneer treatments can be used to enhance the overall symmetry and visual appeal of a smile. Dental veneers are made from a thin porcelain or composite acrylic and are affixed to the outer shell of your teeth to restore their appearance.Veneers can seriously enhance the appearance of a smile by making teeth appear more even and whiter. The colour of veneers is incredibly flexible and can be matched to the colour of the patient’s natural teeth. Porcelain veneers take two trips to the dentist to adhere completely while composite resin veneers can be attached in a single visit.
How Are Veneers Affixed?
Irrespective of the material your veneers are made from, your first consultation with your local dentist will involve shearing back part of the enamel of the teeth you want to have veneers attached to. Specialist dental tools will be used to roughen the surface of the teeth and ensure that the veneers will adhere properly. Temporary veneers will be attached during your first visit if you have decided to use porcelain veneers. The dentist will take a 3D image of your teeth which is sent off to a lab where the veneers are manufactured. Porcelain veneers are then affixed during the second visit. Composite veneers, on the other hand, are affixed to the newly roughened teeth using dental cement on the first visit to the dentist.
